I am just about settled on the TC40D. I really need FWD, and it is plenty strong enough for my use. I only handle round bales a small amount, and I buy small 800-1000Lb ones. With rear ballast, they should handle nicely on the TC.

How much ballast can I expect to get in the rear R4 tires?

Is there a window of opportunity where dealers learn of new programs at NH, and can still close deals at the old one?

I am pretty sure that the TN jumps up quite a bit in price with the FWD. I was surprised to see that there is very little difference in the TC and TN in maneuverability. But the TN weighs a ton (literally) more. I am a little concerned that it would cause too much soil compaction for my use...

Sounds like a good choice Mike. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I think you should be able to handle the small round bales just fine. You've seen the pics of my stump. I've got no idea what it weighed, but we bought a 15ft tall tree from a nursery and it weighed over 1300lbs. I unloaded it from the truck and took it to it's hole on my forks w/ no problems.

On the ballast, my dealer told me he added 600 lbs to each tire (methanol & water). But someone posted a link a couple days ago here to some charts and for my size tires, I think it was probably closer to 500 lbs. Either way, I haven't had any problems.

I think if you are making the deal at the end of a promotion and the new one starts before you take delivery, you should be able to get the better of the two promotions. That is the way my dealer explained it to me. I was buying at the end of the month (and end of a promotion) and was worried the next month's would be better. He said if it was he could resubmit the paperwork and I would get the new one. Or I could keep the current one. Turned out they were both the same in my case.

Are you going to get SuperSteer?

As usual, thanks for your insightful info. I was able to do some calculations, based on sunlight tejectories, ambient air pressure, etc. Your stump weighed just slightly less than the core of the Earth..../w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

1000 Lbs of tire ballast would go a long way to evening the score. My hay guy says that I will have a bale stuck on a spear on the rear, and this will work perfectly. A lot of guys use even smaller tractors, but they don't have my terrain either...

For now, I am keeping the Supersteer out of the equation. I suspect that I will end up with it. I'm sure if you looked at the arial shot of my property, you'd think I'd be nuts not to...

Has anyone had any experience on larger bush hogs on the TC40D?

I would like to get up to 8 or 9 ft. But not if it SLOWS things down... I see that NH has a 7', but have been told that 8 or 9 should work....

Mike, I have a 6' Landpride medium duty rotary cutter (RCR25) on the TC40D. Landpride rates their 6' cutter from 40 to 110 HP. I've found that it runs fine, but according to them I'm at the low end for power. I've cut just about everything with it at this point and no disappointments. I'd check Bush Hog's site for their HP rec's on the larger machines. When I was looking recently I couldn't find any large cutters rated for 40 HP.
