These two guys seem to be out grading on an isolated area, somewhere in south America... They got 1 grader stuck and ooops.... let the chain in the garage, miles away from the worksite...

Then what do you do ? travel hours, or take the risk ?

p.s. mind the flying ripper tooth in the video ;)

I've used my blade and articulated the grader to get my front wheels into a better spot when my back wheels were in some soft stuff, but that was on a cat 140 that had hyd powered front wheels. Think I would have tried that a little more, so the first blade could stay on hard ground.

Then again, motor graders are HEAVY! Once I was running an ancient Cat 12, had the gear driven controls (spend all day getting your fingers busted.) This model was before blades articulated, so it took about 40 acres to turn the thing around, but seems like at just the hint of of a soft spot it would start to sink.

Over here in Holland, motorgraders are rare beasts: most contractors use either tractor drawn graders, (more like what they call a box blade in the USA, only bigger, and drawn instead of 3pt carried) or use an automatic laser levelling blade on the quick-attach of a wheel loader.
I was watching YouTube for videos, to get inspiration to build my own 3pt tractor grader..

I do wonder why they sell these graders on truck sized single tires, when they are meant to work on places where a road still has to be made...

Most of them I have run have tires that are wider/taller than truck tires, with a tread that is much like an R4. Here in the US motor graders are usually used in the latter stages of road construction, doing the final grade work (cutting bluetops, etc.) and the rougher work is left to dozers and scrapers. But then again, I've cleared right-of-way on a job with a 160 blade, so...
