This morning I was moving short logs with the grapple. The tractor was in Medium/High range running at around 2200 RPM. Suddenly the speed decreased by about 2 MPH for no apparent reason. Initially I turned up the throttle, but that didn't make much difference. I stopped the tractor and then restarted it, and when I did, the "Error-92 Motor NG" message was flashing on the info panel along with a safety warning flasher on the left side of the info panel. The owner's manual indicates that this particular error code indicates a problem with the High/Low range motor on the HST. The tractor will still run, but it will not go into high range regardless of whether you are in H/M/L.

First, what do you reckon would cause this?

Second, my tractor is still under warranty until September. Wouldn't something like this be covered?

Thanks!

I would not think there would be any problem with warranty repair but that means either taking it to the shop or having it picked up. If you don't have a service manual, you can call the dealer and ask if they have any ideas. It might be something simple that you could fix in 5 minutes, otherwise you want to get it repaired while you still have warranty.

Is it possible you pulled a wire loose?

Hi,

I have the same tractor, so I looked in my WSM. On page 9-S11, I find:

Trouble Item:
Hi-Lo solenoid failed

Probable Cause:
. Hi-Lo solenoid output terminals voltage is out of specification.
. Hi-Lo solenoid broken or short-circuited.
. Wiring harness broken or short-circuited.

Solution:
Engine does not start (This is a solution ????)
Check the Hi-Lo solenoid resistance (Page 9-S51 shows 10 to 12 ohms)
Replace the Hi-Lo solenoid

On page 9-S51, there is also a small photo of the solenoid's location and a related parts. It's near a filter, but I cannot tell where (My 20 hour 5240 is at the dealer with a MAJOR hydraulic problem.) I'll scan the WSM photos if you think that will help, but your dealer can probably tell you where the solenoid is located if you are able to measure the resistance.

Hope that helps.

Bitseeker,

Very helpful. I suspected that might be the issue. I believe that its located near the hydraulic filter on the left side of the tractor (toward the front of the tractor in relation to the filter).

Just curious how expensive a solenoid will be and how difficult it would be to replace myself. Taking it to the shop is a pain. If it is a five minute fix with an inexpensive part I might be willing to deal with it rather than lose the days of use waiting. At this point we can still use it, just can't put it in hi range.

Any thoughts? Does your manual give instructions on replacing the part?

Thanks so much for your help!!

It looks like an easy replacement to me. Your dealer may get you the part under warranty. Mine had Kubota next-day-air a valve directly to me under warranty (very accomodating dealer).

I have attached a scan of the part of the manual page showing the solenoid

Didn't think of that, but it is worth asking about. (As desperate as they seem to be for work these days they may want to have it in house though in order to bill Kubota for the repair.)

Obviously, the code is what it is. However, this picture looks a bit different than the one I suspected as being the problem. I will take a closer look, and may post a picture for you to see.

I really do appreciate your help. Times like this remind how useful the forums can be.

First thing to do is to crawl under there and check to see if a wire got ripped off. Have a GL3130GST and that is a common error on them, brush grabbing the fire and pulling them off the connector.

Had time to check the wire. Unfortunately, the wire seems to be secure. Looks like I will have to take it out of service and let the dealership have a look.

Bad to worse.

Decided to deal with the low range limitation since the manual stated its ok to continue running, just can't use high range. Was hoping to get the current project finished before taking it in for repair.

Today, tractor shut off and when I tried to restart the Error 20 code showed up. Manual states that this indicates an error in the communication between the ECU and the Intelli-panel.

Also discovered that the 10A fuse for the TM Controller 2 was blown. Immediately blew again when I replaced it and tried to start.

I'm thinking there may be a loose wire, bad ground, or some other wiring related issue at this point. I suppose the two issues could be related or completely separate. Nevertheless, now I will have to get it out of the field the hard way! Fun, fun! :)

ECU was bad so had to replace. Unfortunately, there is another problem. Evidently the other problem caused a chain of events that killed the ECU. Plugged in the new one but didn't try to start the machine. He tested the circuit with 2 amps, but it wouldn't handle even 2 amps. He immediately pulled the new ECU and went back to square one. He suspects a short somewhere in the wiring harness.

Interestingly enough, the Intelli-Panel still displays the error code even when the ECU is completely removed from the machine.

To recap the chain of events:
1. ERROR-92, Motor NG (can use low range only but still runs fine)
2. Error Code 20 (Tractor dies and won't turn over or attempt to restart.)

NOT covered under warranty; it was beyond 2 years.

Interested to hear feedback.
