Cub Cadet 1864

[/HR Hello all,

I just acquired a Cub Cadet 1864 with 216 hours on if from a relative that has been sitting in a barn unused for several years. It's going to need a thorough cleaning, fuel system overhaul, fluids and filters and tires at the very least, along with a battery.
I'll be lurking around the site trying to learn some things on bringing it back to life, so any help/suggestions/encouragement will be greatly appreciated.
I'm sure you'll be seeing me around asking questions.
I look forward to learning about this type of thing.

Welcome to TBN JTW - a few suggestions

Use the red Hytran Hydro Fluid and a Cub Hydro filter - they work better with Hytran..

Take the rear plate off the aluminum transaxle and clean out the case, then reseal the with a new or cork gasket - water can get absorbed in the hydro fluid and this will ensure you have a clean rear end too.

Its a pain refilling the Hydro fluid thru the small port - take it slow - I use a funnel that fits tight inside the neck then electrical tape around it to prevent leakage.

If yours has a hitch attached to the rear Al transaxle, replace that with a rear plate that attaches to the axle and frame otherwise you will eventually pull/strip the bolts towing anything.

They start hard in the winter and when cold, mostly due to fuel issues to the carb, so replace the mechanical fuel pump with an electric one - look on line and you can find these.

Make sure you clean the engine cooling fins and the rear fan - sitting a long time critters are known to build nests in the back side of the engine

Last - send some pics!

I had a Cub Cadet 2072 for 13 years and sold it in 2001 with 795+ hours on it. Got top dollar for it then. It was a great machine. Fixing yours up will be worth it either to use or sell. Only reason I sold it was I wanted a tractor with a FEL.
