I've been reading these discussions for awhile and decided to join. I appreciate all the advice flowing between the more experienced folks and tractor rookies like myself. I retired from the Army a few years back, moved to beautiful Northeast Tennessee and purchased 50 acres of mostly wooded, steep terrain. But the property does include about 10 acres of mowable acreage and a 3 acre pond with some banks that need trimming on occasion. I planted a small orchard and move some dirt around as the mood strikes; no animals for now other than a friendly golden retriever. I started out with a used B2400 HST with belly mower, moved up to a used L3830 GST and am now looking to switch back to an HST because of the hilly terrain. Because I'm biased in favor of Kubota, I've not seriously looked at JD or other makes. I figure an L3240 HST would be just about right and still powerful enough to work my 5 ft Rhino rotary cutter, a 5 foot tiller and 5ft box blade. I will probably also buy a finishing mower at some point. Looking forward to learning more about tractors and such via this forum. Thanks for "listening".
