how does the glo plug actually hook up? Can I connect it to a toggle switch?

Yes, you can hook it up to a toggle switch. It just needs 12v to work. I would make sure it is a momentary switch though so you dont accidentally leave it on and burn it out. You could also put in one of the newer Yanmar ignition switches that have the momentary counterclockwise position.

You would be better served with a "push-button" than a toggle switch, so you can't accidentally leave it on.

Wouldn't a key sw work better if you use the de-compression lever to start. Also, is it possible to use a TS or glo plug on a 1300? I'd like to get one but I'm not sure where they would install. The little guy starts every time but in the cold, I have to turn the starter quite a while. I'd like to install the system especially if it was original equipment. This is one AMAZING little machine and I'd rather not have to replace starters/batteries. Thanks all!

Yes, there should be a threaded plug in your intake manifold. Remove the plug & replace with a TS.
