If I'm not mistaken the timer controls the relay so you should be able to tell if the timer is staying on by checking the wire to the relay from it. A first quick check would be to see if the plug strip is still live with the relay removed from it's socket, obviously it shouldn't be but if it is there's a short somewhere. Good chance the timer is stuck and keeping the relay on. The timer on my 4110 is in the cowl behind the dash. My dash comes out with 4 screws and then the timer is mounted to the metal cowl, not the dash itself, on the right side. My relay is mounted out in front of the radiator next to the horn and air cleaner.
