Does anyone know how to check glowplugs to see if they are bad. I turn on the switch to heat them up and nothing happens there is 12 volts at the plug but no heat. I checked the plug with a meter and theres no conection between the two ends. Its so hard too crank when its cold I'm afraid that I'm going to burn the starter up.

You could could pull the plugs and put 12 volts to them and see if they work. If they are good, they will glow cherry red within a few seconds.

I pull them out and hook up jumper cables to a 12 volt battery. Pos to the wire terminal, negative clamped to the threads. Should glow red hot very quickly. 5 seconds or so.
Easy test if you don't have test equipment

Well thanks for the info guys. I found three were bad and replaced them today and it cranked but still seems that its taking long but it might be normal because this is the first winter I've had it.

Are you sure you have power to the plugs now that you know they are good??

Just curious where you got plugs so quick.

Went to new holland and matched it with the ones they had and got a match. They were $25.00 a piece.

If the glow plugs are working correctly, I'd do a compression test. It hopefully isn't a compression related problem, but it's time to rule that out.

dave hit it right on the head, I too would check compression too. If compression is good, do you have fuel??
Are you getting smoke from the exhaust when rolling it over with the fuel turned on and the throttle partially open?
