In order to keep the important projects in the forefront, /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif I am looking at putting some lighting on my daughter's Yerf-Dog gocart by placing some basic utility lights on the top roll bar to eluminate her way at dusk. My first goal is to keep it simple & inexpensive /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.
Of course, I need a power source.
I thought of lawn-N-garden batteries, but I assume that these need an alternator or generator to recharge them. I also saw an ATV battery pack system sold at Walmart once, but they were pricey & may not be stocked anymore. I also found a "clearance bin", rechargable? battery pack designed for landscape lighting (model ML200RT) as seen at

I'm asking you folks at TBN (the power souce of knowledge) before starting a google search of the WWW for ideas regarding a power source...

Well, I might be wrong, but Tecumseh does have lighting coils on some of their engines. Could be that yours might be one of the lucky ones. Look around for a wire just hanging around, capped off. If you do, then your problems would be solved. If not, personally, I'd go with a GEL cell, even though a lawn-n-garden battery would work just as well. Just need an everyday type battery charger to keep it charged.

Which model of cart does she drive??

You could use a jump-start box. 12 volt box you can get at an auto parts store. Usually they have a cigarette lighter socket to plug stuff into. Have to cables to hook to your battery of your car to give it a boost to get it started if your battery is low/dead. They use a small trickle charger to recharge them. Probably around $40 for one, should run the lights for quite awhile with out the need for recharging. Also handy to have around to jump your car if needed.

Wonder if this'll work?

Not enough info on the engine to cross reference for specs. The jump start that Ed mentioned would probably do just what you want. Of course, then she'll want an AM/FM CD player.

John, my kids also have a yerf-dog cart. My 6 hp tecumseh does not have the lighting coil. I checked a local parts supplier and he wanted about $175 just for the parts. I think I could buy a whole new engine with a lighting circuit for close to the same price. I have put this project on the back-burner.
