I'm gonna' miss that fellow. What a class guy he was. Any person who was lucky enough to enjoy one of his shows while in the military will surely agree that he made you feel appreciated for what you were doing. Today, the angels are laughing because they now have Bob Hope doing stand-up in Heaven. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Amen! I saw Bob Hope twice in my life. The first time while I was in the hospital recovering from my wounds, and the second time in the Med when he visited our task force. He was a good, fun, decent man and will be missed by all.

Jim,

WOW! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I hadn't heard this morning that Bob Hope had passed away! A real sad day for the world. I agree with your comments whole heartedly! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

There are a lot os stories about him. I even had one - well - through my brother anyway. I had posted last year in this thread
Brushes With Celebraties Anyone?

He was a wonderful national treasure, and he will be missed! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Extremely well said Jim... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mr. Hope sure did bring the troops into the limelight... and God gave him such a wonderful gift and long productive life...

Truer words were never spoken, a great man and a great American. I was reading his bio this morning and one part really got me, He tried to enlist in the service and they turned him down said he would be more valuable entertaining the troops then being one, see the military does get things right sometimes /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. I was forunate enought to see his Christmas show in Viet Nam in '69, it was great. The young troops of tomorrow will never know what the impact of this man really was.

Although I was in the Navy during the Vietnam War I never had the privilege of seeing the man.
However, for what he did for so many of us I truly admired him.
He will be missed.

GolfGar4,

On AE last night they ran a biography on Bob Hope.

One among many standout things the man did was after
Desert Storm. During the war he was visiting a unit and asked
where they where from. Turned out they where a bunch of
Jar Heads from 29 Palms which is near the Hope's house.
After the unit returned to the states the Hopes invited the
unit and it's families to the Hopes house for a big party. Hope
did a performance and fed the mass of people.

That is just Classy with a Capital C.

If anyone gets a chance to see the biography it will crack you
up with laughter and tears...

I've been trying to think of one person that even comes close
to what Bob Hope did for the services and I come up with a
blank..

Later,
Dan

I was lucky enough to see a Bob Hope USO show while I was in the US Navy on a Mediterranean cruise in 1971. He had the Gold Diggers, Ursula Andress, and many others. I will always remember how he entertained us and made us proud of what we were doing.
