going to be a tn55 owner, question on hydraulics

I am new to this site, but have seen sound guy on the yt tractor site, just want to say hello to everyone here, I have a small acrage farm in ny 65 acres, I am runningcows off of it and needed a newer decent size tractor, I have been using the 9n I have but gets kinda scary on the hills when bush hogging, only tried it once and said, nope just got back on my feet after a bad accident I had nothing to do with, dont need one to happen I could prevent, the N is a good enough tractor but too small for certain things, My wife and 10 yr old wont let me get rid of it either,, I love her hahaa,, anyway, that is a little about me, and here is my question, I am wondering on the remote hydraulics, will there be enough power there to operate a wood splitter or is that out of the question, I have never had a tractor with hydraulics like this.. but have used them on another farmers spread for the disc and bigger plows and such, but now that I AM GOING TO BE AN OWNER , of one it is a question of mine, I have a splitter that runs off the pto now, and was in the middle of making another one,, will this remove one step or should I still go with a pto powered splitter pump, thanks and sorry for the long post, but I will be back, pat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

With a PTO horsepower rating of 42, I can't imagine you would be splitting trees that would need more PTO hp than this. Hydraulics should be more than adequate. Timberwolf Manufacturing shows log splitters using 47 pto hp, but these splitters will split a 42 inch tree.

Hello,

Great choice, these are great machines.

That TN will easily run a spliiter.
It generates 12 gpm ( http://www.newholland.com/na/Products/tn55_specs.html ).
Common log splitters need about 10 gpm max and run off small gas engines with much less hp.

If you are planning on bailing hay and other tasks you may wish you had stepped up to a TN70 or TN75. About the same cost with more hp.
The 32LA loader with quick attach would also be a handy addition.

thanks, I didnt think the hp would be a problem at all, I wasnt sure if I could hook right into the remote hyro to operate the splitter,, but I guess I can thanks pat,

Re: going to be a tn55 owner, question on hydraulics

hello phred, Thanks for the info, I think I will be happy with the choice, I hope I dont regret the fact that I could have gone a lil higher on the hp, but my concern was I need to get in and out of my wood lot as well, so kind of needed the manuaverability too, I am also thinking some day to upgrade to a loader,, would make life on the farm a heck of a lot easier,, I am getting this unit new for 15,000 so I think I did ok,, my father in law has a 2810, which is a decent machine, but a lot less hp,I have used it many times on his property and thought I was looking for something similar ,then I saw this one,I also have a neighbor who has a 1910, it is a good machine I have done plenty of bush hogging and baling with that but it is a little on the small size for me, especially since my accident I like the straight through of the tn55, I am also 6'7" and 310lbs, so it was time to get a tractor I didnt have to hear the neighbors always telling me to carry the 9n a while, a big decision for a new machine , but I think I got a decent tractor for a few thousand more than a used one, thanks again, pat /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: going to be a tn55 owner, question on hydraulics

I'd move up to the TN 65, it's not that much more and I believe that one of our NH guys posted that the TN 55 front axle, the MFWD axle anyway, is heavier but weaker than the TN 65-75 front axle. This would be a consideration when you get a loader.
