GOING TO HAVE SQUIRREL FOR SUPPER

Richard,
Sounds good. I'm not sure if they grow this far north. Where do they generally live? Do they like rich damp ground like onions? I got some swampy ground I'll have to look over in the spring.

Ramps grow on the shady side of the mountain, the side that is least exposed to the sun, they usually grow wild in the higher elevations.....They are one of the 1st plants to pop up out of the soil in the spring.
I know they grow in Canada,so I am sure they grow in New York state.
I transplanted some here at my home in WVa in the lower lands and they seem to be doing fine.

Out at our deer cabin, we give the kids some 20 guages and tell 'em to hunt squirrel while we are out after boars n' bucks.

Usually at the end of the day though we still have to eat and more often than not the kids get alot more shooting and meat than we do.

Our camp favorite is squirrel head soup with hearts of palm since it's a 100 mile round trip out to the nearest supermarket!

Sure tastes good when you out in the woods miles from anywhere else, but I don't think I'll be serving it up at home anytime soon.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
