I am going to purchase a new tiller in the spring. I am considering a land pride rtr 1258 reverse rotation. Any thoughts or comments would be helpful.

It depends on what size tractor you plan to use with it. I'm looking at a Land Pride RTR2072. I know a 72-inch Tractor Supply County Line tiller is less expensive, but I don't think it would stand up to hard ground that I plan to till and I'm concerned about the availability of replacement parts and service several years from now.

Welcome to TBN jpoitras

I am a forward spin guy on tillers.... Mostly cause of the odd price difference for making tiller spin backwards, it's a sham. All the tiller manufactures are guilty of this.

I also like 'gear drives' instead of chain drive models. I have yet to see a gear drive fail. But have rebuilt a fellow farmers chain drive tiller after the chain wore enough it chewed threw its case....

Landpride makes good implements. King Kutter 'KK', Tarter, Sigma or Sicma are just as good if not better on some points of tillers. Price being one major point. Landpride tends to be sold by tractor dealers that seem to think they can charge more just because they are a 'dealer' or sell the tractors too.

I like the KK tiller for its long track record of durability and more affordability. Tarter tillers which are relativity new on the seen, have very common looking parts compared to the KK and seem to be doing quite well. Both tillers can be bought for considerably less compared to like size landpride.

I have a 2520 JD The tiller will be for personal use on a medium size garden. I used a friends RTR to till this fall and it worked great on my soil as I have a lot of rocks and buried them nicely.
I currently use a JD 210 with a 31 model tiller which has worked well. But now that I have a CUT it is time to upgrade.

I vote for a forward spinning tiller. I don't see the point of reverse. I've had a King Kutter 60" now for about 10 yrs and it's been abused and is going strong. Good luck!

I recommend stepping up from the 1200 series to the 1500 series. It's a little heaver, and that's a good thing. The reverse rotation is best for VERY hard ground and no rocks. I have the RTR1558 on a JD 2720 that I use for custom tilling and it works great. But for private use I think you may be happier with a forward rotating tiller. They jump over some of the "hard" things found in the soil a lot easier.

Do you know is the a big price difference between the 2 units?

I don't know the price difference, we never even considered the 1200 series. That is what a Land Pride representative recommended to my dealer to sell to me.

I also like the forward rotation tillers simply because they will help you through any wet spot. I have pulled a forward rotation through wet spots that driving through empty would have been difficult but with the tires and the tiller pushing it wasn't hard getting through and the ground will dry much faster after going through it once or twice.
