Please help a new owner of a Golden Jubilee, in running condition, replace oil pressure, temperature and ammeter gauges. I replaced the proofmeter this weekend, no problem...but don't know where to start with the remaining gauges.

The specifics I've obtained from various threads involve drainging radiator to replace temperature....how do I do this?

The ammeter has terminals, can I cut and rewire with the original pass through wire?

Finally, if I remove the original oil pressure gauge, can I use the cable/sender or does it need replacement too? If replacing, do I need to drain oil..how much?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't know about the amp meter.

There should be a draincock near the bottom of the radiator.
Drain enough fluid out to get below the port where the temp guage senser goes into the engine. This way it won't leak out when you take the sensor out. Easy to replace.

Oil guage should be mechanical. Just carefully unscrew the tube from the back of the gauge and replace with new guage.
No need to drain any oil for that.

This is easy stuff to do.

Yep.. like pooh said. just drain enough coolant to pop the old bulb out and add the new one. Many people dont even do that, and simply do a quick swap with the new bulb.. perhaps with some thread pucky on the threads. might loose a tablespoon of water if you are fast.

Same with oil gauge. This is all sae stuff. A auto store 9.99$ cheapy sunpro gauge will drop in in place of your old gauge.
What I like to do is leave it a tad loose and hang a rag over it and then run the starter over with the key off or start it for a second to 'burp' the oil out of the line. ( no sender.. is mechanical gauge.. )

Yep.. cut the wire going thru the old loop ammeter and attach one wire to each post. If it reads backwards.. swap em.

Check on the sn of your unit. Lots of 54 NAA's out there sold as 53 Golden Jubilees by uninformed sellers. No real difference except in some units the sn was on the block under the head.. towards the left front of the engine, and the nose badge was different.. and the 53's had a few places where a bushing was used instead of a real 'bearing'.. etc.

If the unit was in the about the forst 50K made.. the sn will be on the engine.. after that.. on the flat boss on the bellhousing by the starter.

Post the number and I'll check what year it is for ya.

post some pics too!

Thanks guys, the info you provided is exactly what I needed to get this job done; I appreciate your quick responses!

As for the serial number, it's NAA70068, no pics yet!

Just squeaked it in by a hair. 1954 starts with 77475.. that makes yours a very late 53.. and golden jubilee for sure.

I too have ordered a proof meter and gauges. It is good to know they should be easy to change. Thanks
