We had those fence stretchers back in the 1960’s. Needed a whack with the fence pliers to close or open them sometimes after they rode in the truck bed on red dirt or caliche roads for a long time.

I got and old two clamp that was my Dad's when we farmed. No need for fences here anymore, but I've used it on the clothesline.
