Golf Cart for Country use?

The price of new UTVs especially with 4wd, is just way out of reach for this poor ol country boy. I've read some of the threads about using carts. I can't find any used UTVs for less than $5,000 and they are pretty well ragged out. I've seen some carts with a dump bed, lifted a little and off road type tires for around the same price. I might also be able to get the American Sportworks 2wd for about the same. I guess my question is what type of carts do some of you use? Best models? Electric or gas? Have locking differential? That type of thing that could help me make a good decision. I'll use it mostly for running around doing chores, fixing fence and other light duty things. Shouldn't be in water or very deep mud. Thanx in advance for any feedback.

I have a Yamaha tat I use ever day. I put a small utility bed on it. It's a 48- volt electric. I really use it like a little pickup.

I have a friend that uses an Electric EZ-Go on his 90 acres. He built a box to hold a chain saw or so and put some bigger wheels on. It is used when it is basically dry and in good terrain.

I think it a bit light for such use, but you can't argue with the quality, durability and value.

The initial cost of a UTV is not the real issue in my opinion. It's the outrageous cost of parts and labour down the road. And there is generally no after market stuff available.

I actually just got an electric gator last year, and I found this electric vehicle to be MUCH, more suitable for most of the chores we use a utility vehicle for. It does not replace the Diesel Mule for everything, but you can't beat the electric for stop and go operation. Of course, a gas golf cart is similar for stop and go service.

We have a 1974? Cushman Golfster with a 12 hp Kohler ( gift from FIL when he purchased a new cart). Have had to do some work over the years to it but it sure is handy and gets around amazingly well even in the winter.

When I was young my grandfather had a 9 hp gas ez-go cart with canopy, fold down plastic windshield, 2" lift, knobby float tires, and a simple bed made from 1" channel and expanded metal. It served him well on the farm and for most of my cousins was probably the first thing they'd ever driven other than a Power Wheels jeep.

Us kids rode it hard for many years, treated it as a go cart, mud truck, jumped it, crashed it, and I even rolled it. The only thing I remember actually being broken was a cracked wheel, once.

It was slow on hills but always got where it needed to go (work wise anyway). It was more than capable of getting the mail, hauling fence tools, salt blocks, feed sacks, ect.

I have owned 4 gas Club Car golf carts. They would be impossible for me to do without. I have a hitch and a folding platform. I spread fertilizer and seed and pull a sprayer on smoother surfaces. I no longer own any 4 wheelers or UTV's since I no longer need to cross farm fields. They are just impossible for me to do without.

On my most recent house I even have a 6' garage door just for the cart.

I started out looking for exactly what you were. REALLY wanted the quiet of electric without the maintenance hassle of yet another carburetor. Finally realized that I really would use it out in the woods and for enough "work" that 4wd would be best. That almost eliminated everything electric except the Polaris Ranger EV. Just found a 2010 "demo" model with low hours for $6k. Think I'm gonna REALLY like it. May upgrade in a few years to Lithium.

One that might work for you is an older commercial club car golf cart like they use at golf courses. I had an older one with a gas engine and it was quite capable with the rear locker and good tires. Some were branded as bobcat as well.
