I finally made my decision and getting back to this forum really helped. I take delivery of my new X585 (config below) next Saturday. They need to order in my 3pt hitch and rear blade but the rest of it will get here on Saturday. They had a unit with 13 hours on it and they took some off for that and will change out the break in fluids at no charge. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

When I started looking about 18 months ago I really thought I needed a NH TC29D or JD 4210 for my 12 acres. Time and money moved on so did my move into the new house. At some point I will post the pictures of the finished product since I was really active 24 months ago with the construction pics.

So I have had time to figure out what I needed and what I will do. I signed on for a new X585 4WD with FEL, 54" MMM and 3PT hitch and rear blade. They loaded the tires added wheel weights and put on putting on a ballast box. I also got the 18 cu.ft. cart to go with it.

For me the size was key and I felt the 2210 was not going to fit in the long term needs. I figure with the FEL, blade and cart I will plenty of work clearing up many, many years of downed trees in the woods.

I talked with two dealers in my area, one is a smaller shop mostly smaller machines like the 2210 and below and the other does those plus the big farm machines. They were within $100 of each other. Being in sales and also what I read here is gow with the one you feel most comfortable with and who treats you right. So I did. I picked the smaller local dealer.

I know I am not in the big machines but I can still move the stuff around. It might just take longer to get things done, but I know I won't try to take on the jobs BIG machines are meant for. Besides I would want a dozer then where would I be.

JD X585 4WD w/ 54" MMM
JD 45 Rear Blade
JD 45 FEL
JD 3PT Hitch
JD # 18 Dump Cart
Loaded Tires 150lbs each
Rear Wheel Weights 50lbs each
Rear Ballast Box for 3pt hitch
Instalation of all above of all equipment
Total $ 14623 plus NYS Tax

I saw a real nice Special Edition when I went to JD for paint today. That is a nice looking machine, sort of a lawn tractor on steroids. Seems like a good solution if most of your work is lawn/yard related.

If you don't need a true compact utility tractor that machine gets you most of the same features on a scaled down level. If my property was a little "tamer" and I didn't have all the horses, I could certainly see how it might fit the bill.

Good luck with the "gentlemen's tractor" /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks guys its never cheap to buy and I really felt it was better for me to buy smaller and farm out the big jobs or rent the ocassional bigger machine. I am lucky I like the excavators who did my house work and they are a good reliable family. I am going to have him do a small job that is a serious grading and filling job that will take a dozer to do so I can seed it

I go in Thursday night to get my manuals and run down. I need a good grease gun he said and I am no mechanic so local relatinoship was the key factor to me.

Waldo I got your PM and will be reading up on your CBN thread to offer some insight about your house.

One thougth is get a big binder say 4-5" D Ring binder. I have ours still almost two years later. I could pretty much rebuild my house exactly again with that book.

45 Rear Blade? I thought they were 6' and 7' blades, designed for slightly bigger tractors. I have the 7' one on my 790 and it is "technically" alittle large. The tracor pulls it fine but due to the lenght (7' vs. 5' rear tire width) a litlle sideways angle on the machine can cause the edge to catch. The x585 would seem to have an even greater rpoblem ven with the 6' model unless it was for use on dead flat areas? If you drop a wheel in a hole the blade can catch and help "unsettle" YER' RIDE...OOPS /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Not discouraging you but letting you know what I have found. In my case the price was right for the used blade, but you are ordering new.

I see from his paper work he corrected his typo. It says 60 Rear blade instead of 45 which I guess he meant to list the 60" blade. Either way if it was too wide I woudl notice that. If there is one thing I learned on that old 8N it was the blade should match the machines width or you can have some real fun.

Yes 60 inch vs. Model 45 makes more sense. You can see how they could get confuded though.

Sounds like youv'e got everything you need for some very nice lawn/landscaping. Me I can't wait to get a couple of truckloads of stone and fix my parking area and drive with the BB.

I saw a X595 SE in a showroom, niiiiiiiiiiice. I wish I had that special edition seat on my 2210. I do have the HDAP SE tires though. Those use catergory "0" rear attachments don't they? What is the lift capacity on that FEL?
