It's nice to hear there is respect for production animals. Lived and owned my own farms for most of my life and wouldn't have it any other way. We milked up to 70 cows on my grandmothers and uncles farm and every cow always had a name. We were taught never to abuse any because they were what put the money in the pocket and food on the table. We never ate until everything was feed first and taken care of and to this day I still do the same. I check everything several times a day and make sure there is water and feed for them and they are comfortable. I never get any livestock unless I have everything in place like feed, fence and shelter first. They are my animals and not the neighbors. I have good neighbors and some not so good. Some have cattle that get out all the time, some that have dogs and cats that run and try and get to my livestock. Those are the ones that I have problems with. My chickens are what I call controlled free rangeing. I have a poultry fence and a mobile chicken coop I move around in a field. Can't let them loose because of the dogs, cats, foxes and every other critter that wants to eat them. We had some strong winds the other day and blew the coop over and ended killing one of the clucks. I really felt bad that I didn't make it safe and it was my fault for not doing so. Now I stake it down. It would be nice for everyone to think of their animals and livestock as the folks here do and not think that their neglect of ownership seems to be someone else problem.
