I have used a cheap cutting torch dolly for the past 20 years. Its fine as long as it just sits in the corner of the shop, but not so great when you want to move or haul it. It is flimsy and only has little chains to hold the bottles. Anyway, after a little mishap this past weekend, I have decided to try to find / build a good cart. Looked around on the net and found a really cool one but its sky high price is a downer. Its the Rollin Roughneck by Uniweld. Anyone have one of these. If you do, Id like to know how you like it. Any other good carts out there, production or home made. Id like pics if you have some good ones.

Also, what do you wear (eyes) while cutting with a torch? How dark is necessary to protect?

Buy a good quality hand truck and customize it to hold the bottles. A tray on the bottom, a chain welded on one end and a clip on the other, and some hooks to hang the "possibles" make for a perfect dolly.

The deluxe option for wheels is to take some automotive or trailer spindles/hubs and tires; if that's too big then run a couple of those dinky, temporary spares instead.

I used one like this once and swore I'd make myself one. I still haven't and currently use a hand truck with a couple of welded hooks to hang hoses and the cylinder wrench.

Another nice feature is a small, deep tray to hold things like a striker, tips and tip cleaners. If it's too shallow then you'll leave a trail of tips in your wake wherever you go.

Make sure you can secure the cylinders top and bottom; whether it's with two chains or a tray like gwdixon suggested.

I use a #5 shade for O/A cutting...I second the idea of using a modified hand truck...that's what I use...I welded links of chain down each side and use the black rubber straps to secure the tanks...6 of them to really secure the tanks (#4's) as I have one set that I take outdoors to different places on the property at times and it really holds them well (I haul them on the tractor). I used an old toolbox (removed the lid) and use it to hold extra tips, striker, goggles, soapstone, tank wrench, etc.

I converted a wheel chair to use as a welding cart. Those large wheels roll over anything. Holds the bottle, mig and a storage cabinet beneath the mig...

What I'd really like to haul my cylinders around with is a new C5500 with a service body!

I made one with front tires off a riding lawn mower. I really made a mess of the rest of the cart. It's too wide, poorly fabricated, has no storage, and has sharp corners that catch and tear stuff; but the wheels are nice.
