I recently picked up a KK 60" Finish Mower with a couple of noisy spindles (the outside ones). Did a little research and found some very good deals on parts. I found bearings on ebay, I got six 6205 c3 spec bearings for $11.50 with free shipping. That's like $1.81 per bearing! They had rubber seals but those pop out very easily. Then I found seals for $2.86 each from a place called sum of all parts, their shipping was a little high though. The snap rings I found locally for 55 cents each. Here are some links:

I think if I needed those seals, I'd be extremely impressed and appreciate your post. The truth is that only 50 people have viewed your thread so far and probably none of them are experiencing the problems you had. If they ever do, they will hopefully search and find your post. I think you did a great job of shopping and making a fine buy.

Excellent information for future reference. Thanks for sharing.

Last time I checked the agrisupply catalog, KK replacement spindles were about $80 each. Your approach is much more cost effective. :)

I've got a couple old KK spindles that need new bearings, I just change out the whole spindle, seems easier than tearing the spindle apart. thanks for the info, I might want to repack one.

Gee thanks for the replies fellas! I was feeling lonely, I know I'm not the only guy with KK spindle troubles. Yes the seller "bearings" on Ebay has all kinds of bearings. Rebuilding the spindles wasn't a bad job at all. Once I got past the first seal. Was having a little trouble getting it out until I decided to drive a wood screw into it so I could pull on it. When the screw bottomed against the bearing it pushed the seal right out! After that it was a greasy piece of cake.

How difficult was it getting the bearings onto the shaft and into the spindle body? Tight fit, or pretty easy?

The bearings go into the spindle body fairly easy. The fit on the shaft is a little tighter. I used a deep socket big enough to go over the shaft and push against the inner race of the bearing. First I drove the lower bearing onto the shaft using the socket and hammer method (using a block of wood to pound against). Then I installed the snap rings at that end. Then I installed the shaft and lower bearing into the spindle body from the bottom, didn't need any real force to fit in. I did grease the inside of the body and the outside of the bearing though. Then I set the assembly upright so it's sitting on the bottom end of the shaft on a block of wood and installed the top bearing with the deep socket and hammer method until the snap ring groove is exposed, then I installed the two snap rings on that end. (two on each end). Only pound against the inner race of the bearing, never the outer race or bearing damage will result. Then you carefully install the seals. The lower seal has the lip facing inward, the upper seal lip faces outward. The bearings I bought had the rubber seals on both sides that need to be removed but they pop out very simply. According to KK you then fill the unit with grease. It will take quite a bit to fill them.
