Today I was running the excavator, pushing down trees, and I saw some glass on the ground.. It was obviously some old trash. I never ceased to be amazed at the trash I find in the woods. In all my years of hunting, and hiking, I have come across the most unlikely items in the strangest places. The pine woods I was working in are 50 years old, based on growth rings. There is no noticeable road bed in the area, except for the dirt road that borders the property,which is nearly 250 yds away. The trash was mostly baby food jars, with steal tops, many rust out...but also beer cans, medicine bottles (bayer aspirin ,etc), and whiskey bottles. as i was digging around I found a cast metal toy....a Hubley Steam Shovel Excavator. I'm pretty pleased with this little find.

Like you, i've found many things & possibly a "shine" operation at one point according to the 100 or so old mason jars.

When my youngest Son was 8 years old he found this. He wrote the note and stored it in a check box.

As he became an adult he moved out on his own. With several moves, he lost it.

20 years went by.

My eldest Son called me one day all excited!!!! Hey Dad, guess what I found while digging thru some boxes stored in the garage???? Danny's Scraper!!!!!

I drove over to his house and we went to Danny's. Sheldon said "here Danny I got something for you" and handed him the box. You ever saw a grown man cry??? Like a Baby he cried. He had given up on every finding it.

That's MOJO.

That is a great story. I hope those are all framed now.

Still keeps them in the check box. Check box is in the safe. It was 1987 when he first found the scraper. A local Artifact collector offered him $500 for it. I told him he would be better served by keeping it. When it resurfaced Danny went and visited that same collector. He offered $2500 this time. Danny declined. Some things are just more valuable to possess and secure.
