My 2006 Ford F-250 with 6.0 diesel had started acting up and not want to start when cold. I had to plug it in and even then it was rough once started. Took it to autozone to have the codes checked as the CEL came on and it showed eight codes for all 8 cylinders. Checked online and it came back that the FICM was most likely shot as this is a problem Ford had with these motors. Now I have not cared much for my local Ford dealers service department. The service manager has always been friendly and easy to talk to but he never would go out of his way to help much. So I started dealing with the Ford dealer 3 times further away. What surprised me is that my sister recently started working for the local dealer, she told me at christmas that I can buy parts through her to get her discount so I called and the price for the FICM was going to be $490. I then decided to have the dealer double check it for me first as it was going to have to be flashed if it was the problem and they were going to charge $75 for checking it out. Well, he noticed it may still be covered under warranty but wasn't sure. He worked on it and finally found a way to get it covered so it wouldn't cost me a dime. I know for a fact the only reason the service manager went this far to help me out was because my sister worked there. I am glad he did as I really wasn't happy about having to spend $500 for a part on a truck less then 5 years old with 43k miles when Ford knows there is a problem with this part.

The manager did a lot to help me diagnose the problem as I was going to change it myself. He didn't want me wasting money on parts I didn't need and talked to me about a lot of differnt things and printed up some TSB's that would help me with testing the FICM. I am really happy though that he went out of his way. I just wish he would be this way for everyone and not just because my sister works there. It was so nice being treated with respect and not as if your wasting their time.

I am still happy with my 6.0 though as this is only the second time the shop has worked on it. The first time was for an oil leak and that was covered under the warranty. We are getting ready to replace the 2002 F-250 gasser and I started looking at the new trucks. I really would like to try the new 6.7 diesel but have not decided if we are going to go with another 250 or a 150. I do most of the towing with my 250 anyway so we can get away with the 150 if the price makes sense and the mileage is considerably better. Its amazing how much has changed in just 5 years as far as features go. I would love to get a new F-250 crew cab long bed with 6.7 and 4 wheel drive. I don't need to go too fancy but the XLT would be perfect. :)

Glad to hear all went well with your truck. I too wish everyone could get the treatment you got from them. I've had similar experiences with a local garage about a 2003 w/ 6.0 that I no longer have.
