First off, let me say, This is probably more of a want that I can't get now but something I am looking at. I have posted lots of questions about things I want in the last few months, but can't really afford at this time.

Now to the questions. I am looking at trading my 20 + 2 equipment trailer for a deck over gooseneck. I am looking at a 20+5, but the longer dove tail sure looks like it might drag. Anyone have problems with this? I used to have a 18' car hauler and drug the dove everywhere I went, but it was a lower trailer.

There are several dove tail options with the trailer I am looking at. Does anyone use a pop up dove tail? I can't see a need for this unless hauling very long building materials. Also I like the self cleaning dove tail, but it is awkward walking on it, would just a wood dove tail be a better option?

Also the 14k trailer I'm looking at has cross members at 24" centers, Should I go with 16" on center? I can't forsee needing a 14k but I want more than 10k. Thanks, JC

I bought a Hydraulic Dove tail trailer by Load Max. I LOVE IT! Yes it cost a little bit more than a standard dove but it is great. I use it to haul a Track loader and a mini excavator all over Florida. The trailer is a 32' and with the tail up I can use a full 32' deck.

Have you considered a tilt bed? Example.....24' total deck length, the front 6' is stationary and the other 18' tilts. This eliminates the need for ramps and the problem with the dove dragging. Just a thought.

I have several trailers. My deckover 25K GN is a 25+5 pop up dove tail with ramps pull out ramps underneath. The tail will drag at times. I live with it but need to be aware of it with heavy loads or you can get hung up. I like the pop up tail for the added flexibility but only need it flat occassionally. Someday, you will wish you had the full, flat length bed that you won't have with the fixed dovetail. I would really like to have the spring assisted fold over ramps that make the tail flat. H&H trailers make a nice spring assist GN.
IMHO, 24" centers are too far apart. The cost isn't much more for 16" centers. Get it now, you can't add it later.
I have an electric tilt, 14K, winch, 24' bumper pull that is my favorite trailer. Easy to load, stout and pulls like a gooseneck due to the long trailer. It has 12" centers. This is the only new trailer I have ever bought. All the others were bought used but in good to excellent condition.
Other trailers include 4x8' tilt, 5x10' tilt, 6x12' with fold down mesh tailgate, 16' aluminum with ramps and front rock gaurd, 18' enclosed cargo trailer. 14000 lb dump trailer, 16' utility trailer with lift up ramps, little red wagon and wheel barrow.

One more thing, consider torsion axles instead of spring axles. The ride on heavy rated axle trailers when empty (or full) is so much smoother.

I have an Anderson G82910TW which is built in GA. Here is their web site: Get your gooseneck trailer, dump trailer, & others - Anderson Manufacturing. ... I'm concerned about pulling it into GA or AL as their state DOT is looking hard for DOT numbers on rigs pulling trailers with a payload over 10,001 lbs. That includes farmers! I have a farm in Macon County.

I live in North Al and have not heard of anyone getting pulled over by DOT. I have my 12k trailer registered to haul 10k, but have not hauled over 8k on it. JC
