got a ford 951

Been absent a few days as i made a run from florida to texas to pick up a ford 951.. am tired and hitting the bed. did a 48hrround trip red eye there and back.

951--is that one of those 900 series Fords with the rear portal axle?
There was a 1959 Ford Model 971, 901 power master, serial #5668137 on eBay a few days ago that went for $2100. It had the portal axle and the SOS transmission.

SG, you have a major case of tractoritis to drive 2000-3000 miles with diesel at $4/gal to get your next Ford for the collection.

Do you plan to go to that big Kruse auction in Nebraska in early April? Over 3000 tractors going on the block. More than 20,000 items to auction in a week.

Yep.. the 951 will be in the 901 series ( 900 series was 1955-1957 ), and ( 901 series was 1958-1962 )

I havn't cross reffed the sn on this one.. but it looks like it could be a 58 or early 59 .

yep.. diesel was about an average of 3.93 per/gl all the way. Total trip miles from my house to my house was 2260 miles, luckilly I got good milage on that truck.. total fuel cost was a hair less than 700$. Yes.. the 7xx and 9xx have outboard gear reduction.. etc..

I didn't have much prep time for this trip.. the 'deal' kinda presented itself about 1.5 days ahead of me leaving.. so I had to pretty much scramble to make it in time!

Ah, outboard gear reduction = portal axle. I notice some vintage Allis Chalmers tractors (WD, etc) also have outboard gear reduction.

The Mercedes Unimog 404 (aka Swiss army truck) has outboard gear reduction which is usually referred to as a portal axle by the Mog crowd.

My neighbor had a 404 when I lived in Orange County a few years ago. Fun vehicle, major off-road beastie, but loud and rode like you'd expect a piece of military equipment to ride.
