I had not missed seeing my Peahen more that 1 day at a time when morning feeding and yet I was surprised this morning to find that she had 2 chicks with her. Not long ago my Peacock got hit by an 18 wheeler so I guess this is the last of his offspring. I got them caught up and put in a pen just to keep them away from predators. I finally caught the peahen and put her with her chicks since she was staying right under the pen all the time. I had some success with raising some chickens that way with the mama hen nurturing them in the pen till they got big enough to turn out. She still nurtured them along after loosing them so I hope the peahen will do the same thing. I recently bought another peafowl from a breeder but don't know the sex, hoping it is a male but another female would be welcome.
I still want to get another India Blue male to go with my hen. My neighbors 2 white males stay at my place most of the time but I really don't want to breed my India blue with a white male. I have seen some of those crosses and they are really quite ugly.

I tried peacocks once. Long story short, they all eventually wandered off the farm.

That's a very nice surprise for sure!!!! Congratulations. We have a friend with pea fowl that have the most amazing tail feathers. We're thinking of giving them a try, but it's kind of low on our priority list. They sure are beautiful!!!

When I was in high school, I took a girl to a dance and I when I took her home and walked her to the door, I was going to try to kiss her. Just as I made my move, a peacock came out from between the hedges and pecked me in the backside. Scared me like crazy.

Iknow what you mean. My neighbors white (both cocks) ones stay at my place almost all the time. They are pests for the entire neighborhood. They will come inside any open door. The love to set on top of cars, RTV, trailers, boats, tractors and motor homes and just crap all over them. My two never did that. They would set on top of my chicken coop but that was about it. These two of my neighbors are unafraid of humans and will just walk right in your house if the door is open. That happened to my neighbor. They came thru his garage door (the 4 car garage is converted to a 1 car and the rest is office) walked right thru the house and started pecking at their 3 Havanese dogs. I cant leave my shop open without them getting on top of my car or truck.

Peacocks shed their tail feathers every year so we have a lot of peacock feathers. We give some to all of our visitors. I see some folks sell them on Ebay for $5 per feather. It will be a long time now before we get any more. Hope at least one of the 3 we have is a male. We went to a farm close to Little Rock to buy a 4 week old chick (sex unknown) hoping it would be a male. I don't know how to sex them.

Peacocks are pretty, but I sure would NOT want one. Many years ago, there was a horse farm near the northeast Dallas police station, and they had some Peacocks. The police used to get calls from new residents in the area that a woman was screaming for help somewhere. I assume most of you know what a peacock sounds like.

A sergeant who used to work for me told me about someone out in the country giving him a peacock that the owner wanted to get rid of. He said he just put the peacock in the back seat of his car and headed for home (about 20 miles). He said that peacock went berserk and began running laps around the entire inside of his car, spewing poop all the way. He said it literally destroyed the inside of his car.

When we lived in Navarro County, a neighbor with whom I frequently worked, had a peacock. For reasons unknown, that peacock was always trying to attach him, but never bothered anyone else. So one day we were going to be cutting hay, he started down their long drive on his Farmall with me right behind him on his Oliver. That peacock was running along side his right rear wheel trying to get at him. But, as we picked up speed, the peacock suddenly stopped, then darted to the left right in front of me, and I ran over it with that Oliver. The neighbor said he was glad to be rid of it.
