We got home last night at 5:30 with the 425, 48" finish mower, small bucket with teeth, mini hoe, box blade, and pallet forks. I mowed the lawn after unloading everything and playing with the pallet forks and bucket briefly, had to finish in with lights on. I'm not sad I got the 48" mower, it really bogs down on the steepest part of the yard. I anticipate using the forks alot. I planned on bringing home a 60" blade but they didn't have any.
Anyway in the short time I've used it (2.2 hours) I am absolutely thrilled with how it works! If only it were quieter.
Do any of you engineering types out there think that some sort of perforated foam pad mounted under the canopy would lessen the noise level. (Yes I have ear plugs and they work fine.)
Thanks to all on this site for helping me make the decision.db

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll have both a productive and fun time with your new acquisition. I have found the following accessories indispensable when using the PT:

1) Quality hearing protection. I just purchased a new set of Peltor H10A Ear Muffs - they have a 29 dB Noise reduction rating, and they are far more comfortable than my previous pair. I looked up MossRoad's aircraft-rated muffs, but they were a bit too dear. By the way, David, do you think your muffs are going to provide a lot more protection in the environment we are talking about with the PT?

2) A spinner knob. In my opinion, this should be standard equipment on the PT. I really don't see how you can drive without it. On my first day, I about went crazy with the wheel, slinging it back and forth just to steer the tractor!

3) Heavy leather gloves and safety glasses - a face shield if using the brush hog! It throws a lot of stuff around, and some of it at quite a high velocity.

I would encourage all PT owners to put these few items on their 'Safety First' list.

Mr. Safety,

Hey, Mr. Safety,

do you think your muffs are going to provide a lot more protection in the environment we are talking about with the PT?

I think yours provide more noise reduction than mine. They are over 17 years old. I have these and these left over from when I worked at the airport 17 years ago. I also had a pair of behind the head models from when I was on a rifle team in high school, but they would still hit the stock, so I switched to the foam inserts when shooting. I would like to get some of the electronic ones that are talked about here on TBN so much, but don't have the cash right now. The ones that I have are very comfortable.

No matter what brand you get, get some and use them when operating the PT, or any power equipment for that matter. Hearing loss is cumulative. I use hearing protection when I use an electric drill, sawsall, weedeaters, snow blowers, leaf blowers, circular saw, table saw, chainsaw,.... you get the picture. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Even if it is jsut a small job, I get some hearing protection. I also keep some of the foam roll up types in my tool bag for when I have to use a hammer indoors.

So, use it or lose it. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
