I've never run a box blade before but got this tractor to mow our fields, till, repair the road, fix some rough spots in the area we finish mow, find light tractor work to do with it such as mow fields, road blading, and whatever else I can find to do with it.

Our road was severely rutted from the hard spring rains. It is about 2000' of road, and took me about 7 hours to rip it, put a crown in it best I could with the remaining aggragate, then smooth it over.

Man, that was a blast, and I got to know a bit more about how the tractor reacts and performs. Next I will be mowing the fields before weeds go to seed again. I am wondering what are the best times of year to cut fields for this, if there is such a thing?

I really am enjoying this machine!

In OHio it’s recommended to cut late September as weeds go to seed in October.

Sounds like you are off to a good start as a newbie.........If you can rip up and grade a road to your satisfaction........that really is a good start and the other chores will look easy...

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks. It took me a minute to learn how to adjust the angles on the box blade, and the lever doesn't have much finesse, or I haven't learned to feather it.

Have a question for you or any others.

When I get to the junction of my neighbor's road there isn't enough road to turn around when the box is still filled with some gravel and stay on the road. What is the best way to make a smooth transition, turn around, and keep grading?

Dump the box, turn and drag it the other way. Or feather it out before the end....

Thanks, I appreciate it. I tried that, and I believe you're correct, I thought maybe there was some other way to go about it. Operator error and inexperience on my part. I'll get better at feathering it in. Got to get used to it, it goes from one extreme to another, not sure if there is a way to adjust it or not.

I appreciate your response, and the responses of everyone else.

If it works like mine it holds position per the lever. Just a little lift and it will stay up a bit. Takes some practice, I use the box mostly on the little BX and handle that with much more fineness after 20+ years.
Besides the BX turns on dime compared to the LS. :ROFLMAO:

Mine has some travel adjusters on it, so that will probably help once I find the distances for the sweet spots.

NOW you tell me, I have to go the the next county to get turned around!!!!!! :p:ROFLMAO:
