JD 755 1993
Finally got my JD 755 (at least 50% of it, I share it with a landscaper) and tilled < 2 acres today.

The field was corn and after two passes, it was fine. So I was able to not have a disc. Not all of the waste is gone, but most.

Tiller Question: When I end a pass at the end of the lot the tiller leaves a little ditch, how do I prevent this?

FEL Question: Never had one before so bear with. Many people on this forum talk about back-blading how do you do it, how would I use the FEL, for example, to smooth a gravel driveway or to cover up the ditch referenced above?

Thanks to all in advance. Because of you people I finally broke down and bought the 755 and implements and am quite happy.

Rob,

I don't know if there's a way to prevent it, but I just plan on taking a final pass at the end that is perpendicular to the direction of the rows. That seems to pretty well fill in the gaps left where the tiller is lifted out.

As for "backblading" with the FEL, I think it means to put the bucket at a dump angle perpendicular to the ground. You then lower the bucket until it contacts the ground, then back up to spread material. I've done this a little with dirt I've just tilled up, but I believe my owner's manual (BX2200) says to not do this (too much strain on the bucket cylinder). Before doing it, I test the spot by putting the bucket in the dirt before it is perpendicular, then finish dumping the bucket to see if the cylinder can push the dirt by itself. I figure if the cylinder can move the dirt, it's loose enough to not put too much of a strain on the cylinder by backing up with it in the dirt.

Rob,
I've had good luck with easing the tiller up just before the end of the run. It sort of tapers up to the surronding area. As long as that taper is not objectionable to the gardener it makes life alot easier! Next time I'm tilling (soon) I think I will give kevins perpendicular pass a try! Enjoy Your new toy!!!

Rob,
I've run into that same problem with every type of tiller I've ever used. I usually just use a hoe to pull some of the loose dirt back into the ditch.
