Got my JD 950 home!

Got my JD 950 home the other day! It all appears to be in good shape. Have already moved dirt witht he blade and smoothed the driveway. Did some mowing with a brush hog and am gonna disc up a line around the fence to help contain the field burn later. Having a lot of fun with it!

I wanted to get a few answers from JD owners. What oil is recommended for the engine. I use valvoline in my vehicles. This is a fresh 3 cylinder diesel. Only has about 2 hours on the rebuild. I was told to pick 10w30 or 10w40 and use it year round. ALso what hydraulic oil is recommended?

Todd,
I use AMSOIL synthetics for motor oil and hydraulic fluid. I use AMSOIL 10W-40 and their synthetic hydraulic/transmission fluid. It is a bit expensive, however, I feel it is worth the added cost.

I can barely see my 850 for snow banks. It is under my neighbor's lean to where it sits every winter while he is in Florida. For what it is worth I always use JD oil, fluid etc. Have fun--er work hard!

I have been told by a JD service tech to use breakin oil.

I had a lot of fun today. Did get it stuck pulling a disk. Was my first time at doing so and learned real fast on what to do and not do. It was also adjusted wrong. My friend adusted it and after that the 950 really pulled good. We mowed and disk'd a line around the fence today to get the pasture ready for burning here in a week or so if the rain stops here in Kansas.

I'll check on the oils mentioned from the posts! Thanks for the replies! It may be a used 2wd tractor but I had tons of fun today with it! It also seems to be in good shape and the rebuilt diesel held together today.
