Thanks for the tips on getting un-stuck. Unfortunately I did it again yesterday.

I was moving some dirt and creating a burn pile for a bunch of trees and brush, when I got a little carried away. My dozer is big enough that I can just about run over most of the stuff growing on my place. Just point it in a dircection and watch everything fall.

As it falls, I run over it and continue on my destructive way. There really isn't anything else like it!!!

Anyway, I'd been at it most of the day and wasn't being as cautious as I should have been. I never saw the stump, but straddled it and got it caught in my belly pans somehow.

I could go about 4 feet forward, or 4 feet backwards. I could spin and turn, but only 4 feet in any direction. I was stuck again!

I went back to the barn and got my chain saw and started cutting 2 foot lengths of the down trees all about. After six trees, I had enough wood to build a ramp to get off the stump.

One day I'm gonna learn not to do these things, but until that day happens, I'll just keep on pushing it.

Getting stuck is seldom about traction. It's almost always a lack of "ground" clearance. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Eddie, you got your dozer at a bargain price, but you are getting a fortune in lessons learned. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm keepin' my eye on you and storing all this info away for the day I start digging my lake out. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Eddie thats the best wat to learn lol. Ive only had to use the pole and chain method once and in that hole it was 98 degrees andno wind stirring. I have high centered them before. What dad showed me to do is to put the blade down all the wa till it picks up the crawler and hold it till its all the way up. Then put it in forward or reaverse depending onwhat you think and let the tracks convey the dirt towards the center of the tracks. then raise the blade to lower the machine and you are a few inches above your obstacle. I use this trick almost every rainy day at the land fill or clearing.

Taylor,

Thanks for the tip. I started to do exactly what you described, but didn't realize it might actually work. I lowerd the blade and started moving dirt with my tracks, but got scared that I was digging deeper ruts around the root and making things worse.

Now I see how it might have worked.

Like the others said, I'm learning new tricks every day.

Eddie, so what makes you think we didn't want to see pics of this latest mishap huh? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif John

I always wanted to run a dozer. I've thought of renting one just to piss around with it on an open field. A few guys from work have the same idea so we called our counterparts that sell HW to CAT and they said they offer an 'executive' training course for folks that want to run a dozer.

Nice job getting it unstuck however.
