The clutchless BX does the same thing --- needing to blip the hydro pedal to engage gears and PTO---and this phenomena has generated a number of posts by new BX owners. In some ways the clutch could be considered then an advantage---nah--the BX wins here too /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif . J

On my B7500 you can shift the PTO while the tractor is moving, but I always do it stopped. Otherwise too many things can start happening at once. Further, since I always slow to idle when I engage/disengage the PTO, you wouldn't be moving much anyway. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

I would always bring the engine RPM's down to engage the PTO - seemed to be logical to me for wear and tear purposes and not have that big shock to the system. Then I started thinking about how it kind bogs the engine at low RPM's when the PTO is initially engaged. So, now I'm thinking that maybe the RPM's should maybe be somewhere in between PTO RPM and idle. Any thoughts on this?

No technical knowledge, Jeff, but I'm like you. I usually kick the rpm up around 1200-1500 to engage the PTO and of course ease out on the clutch as you would taking off with a manual transmission so there's no shock when I engage it.

Like Bird, I don't really know. However, when I engage the PTO with the brush cutter attached, the bog down is very little. So I'll probably continue as I do now; engage at idle, then spin it up. Likewise when I get ready to disengage the PTO, I reduce RPM to an idle, then disengage. This has the added benefit of leaving the cutter at a pretty low RPM.
