Yeah, I know...in the grand scheme of things, what's the big deal. But as all of you know getting a new attachment is just plain exciting!!/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif Of course that means I have to share with my friends.

After shopping for a while and reading the thread on gear box vs belt, I decided to spring for the gearbox. Then all of a sudden an ad popped up for a used Woods RM372 6' belt drive mower. It is like new and I got it for $1000 (he was asking $1350) so I couldn't pass it up. It does a terrific job. Cuts as smooth as my riding mower. I can't believe how thick the deck steel is on a quality mower. I've been using cheap stuff too long./w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif And as someone mentioned in a earlier post, the belt drive units are quiet. You can't even hear it running...a pleasant experience after bush hogging!

Only problem is that the "front yard" just tripled in size. I couldn't help it...it's so easy to do now! A lot of what you see towards the back of this photo has only been bush hogged for the last 15 years. It looks much nicer now. After a couple of cuttings it will smooth out more I'm sure.

Brett,

Does it really cut as well as a riding mower?

In my opinion yes it does. That was one of my biggest concerns when I bought it and I am not dissappointed at all. I will mention that my lawn is not a manicured lawn. It's grass and weeds and anything green is welcome!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I still believe that it would cut as good on any quality lawn. I was also concerned "could it cut low enough". I found that out very quickly! It can get right down to the ground with no problem. The blades on this unit are not what I would call surgically sharp either. After I groom them a bit It will only get better.

I have no experience with a gear box finish mower. This is my first final cut unit. I can say that it is a lot quieter than my bush hog. Not even comparing the two, I can tell you that it is almost silent.

Hope this helps!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
