Most OEM replacement parts are a rip off whether its a tractor or a car or a fridge. Makes the dealers happy, I guess, because then the repair bill is even bigger.

Comparing (likely) remanufactured starters with OEM replacement isn't fair. Maybe comparing orange with blue or green would be, though. I doubt the differences would be that great.

At least a starter is something that can usually be rebuilt, so you have an option.....

Before I traded my '87 JD 755 this spring I lost the alternator. The dealer wanted $435.00 for new replacement. Napa wanted $185.00. I got it re-built for $40.00. Lost the muffler on an old, circa 1990, troy built rider (Kohler engine). Dealer wanted $125.00.......I welded it..

It's not just Kubota.....

You are referring to the cost of rebuilding the engine or the HST? I would think the HST would be mostly seals, maybe a hydraulic pump and/or motor, could that be costly enough to trash the unit? I guess a typical gear trans pretty much last forever, at least in the old machines.

I'm wondering what the useful life of a 'commercial' HST is... I've seen a cub with 1000 hours on it where the trans was basically dead due to internal leakage.

The parts for my BX are cheaper than the '83 model B8200 I replaced. Wanted to get a new sliding seat base for it due to a crack. New one was $600. Sounds outrageous, but is true. Was able to mig weld the old one. Not all the parts for the old one were that overpriced, but as a whole, more expensive than the BX. Luckily I know a local guy that rebuilds starters and alternators. That is the way to go on those items.

Gee just paid 225 for a starter for a 76 harley golf cart! couldn't find any 50 dollar bargins there!
