I'm close to making my next purchase a new aerator for the BX2200. I have looked at the Midwestern unit and it seems very nice. I also looked at the GPC Metal Products unit which is a different type of unit. They use a drum with core aerator plugs welded to the drum. They are said to be extremely durable and easy to maintain, only pillow block bearing on either end with grease fittings. Has anyone used such an aerator form a rental yard, one that needs a drum filled with water? The weight for a 48" 3pt. hitch unit filled with water is approximately 500 lbs. They have a good web site if anyone wants to see what they look like. I'm also concerned about compacting the soil, something I'm trying to relieve. From what I understand only the spikes touch the ground not the drum. Any thoughts form those who use aerators? Bigguy

By the way if anyone wants to look at these units do a search on yahoo and put in GPC Metal Products and their site will come up I can't seem to attach the file to go right there.

I have the 36" core aerator from GPC (pull type, not 3 point) and it works great. Well built, great value for the money (my opinion). You can get it as a 3 point or pull type, and it can be converted from one to another. You just have to purchase one or the other kits. The 48" is the smallest unit for which they keep 3 point lift parts in stock.

Anyone know where you can find a larger areator for like the fairways on a golf course? This would be for like a Tc33 or equivalent to haul. A pull type would be good. Something like 6 feet wide or better and heavy.

Can you replace the plugs when they wear or get bent? If so, looks like a good deal. The only other concern I would have is when the drums rusts out and leaks, how will you add weight, sand perhaps if the hole is not too big? The cost with a 3 point is $630 plus shipping, pretty close to what I paid for the Kioti/MidWest 4 foot unit I have.

The only problem I have is the dolly I built with 3 inch wheels makes it impossible to take the stands out without putting a 2x4 under the rear wheels to get that extra height to remove them. I am thinking of just drilling holes in the stands and pull them up and lock into place instead of removing them.

I saw one loaded on a trailer at a service station that a guy used for golf course contract work. The actual aerator pulled out a very narrow diameter deep plug. Looked like it would be pencil sized. I had no idea what the rig did until I asked the owner.

The aerator was designed so the points were driven into the ground vertically and retracted such that the ground was not ripped. From the complexity, I guess $10,000 would have been a bargain price. It must have been expensive if golf courses don't keep one in a shed ready to go.

I have a 72" Woods for my 33D. love it.

Once again thanks to the people of the forum. AllenP wrote that he had a 36" GPC unit that he purchased from Leinbach Machinery. One call to Leon Leinbach and I made my purchase of a 48" Tru Core Plugger 3pth model. Saved enough to pay for shipping and some more to boot. As always the men and women of this site come through to give advise and help when neded. Thanks to Allen and everyone else for all their help. Bigguy
