Have any of you put GPS locators on your tractors, mules and trailers? Any recommendations for best products? I want to be able to locate my expensive equipment if it gets stolen.

Regarding security, I have 66 acres that I'd like to be able to see remotely and/or record trespassers. Seems like it will be easy to put cameras at the gate and on the home but have any of you put cameras on the corners or along the fence lines? I don't have anything of extreme value and there is no reason for people to be trespassing. I'm just concerned that they will since I'm not at the property daily. It would be nice to have recordings of vehicles or people if necessary.

While I'm posting, any recommendations for whether I should buy a 4wd or 2wd tractor? I have an old Deere 2030 but it has a hydraulic problem and I'm not sure if I want to buy a new one.

Thanks y'all!

I say, good luck trying to recover your equipment. If that thing goes in a container, the system (I believe) is useless for one thing. Seen video of attempts to recover equipment. It's not that easy.

A lot of stolen stuff here is said to end up on Indian Reservations. Then you can forget about it.

if they steal my stuff, I doubt I'd ask for it back...probably play by the rules the thief set

If you get a Front end loader … Definitely a four wheel drive tractor. A load in the bucket makes the back end light and loose traction.

I have too much equipment to insure. But for a few pieces, forget the tracking and just make sure it's well insured for replacement (no BS) value.

Kind of sad when you think about it. The only time Insurance pays off is when you make a claim, and the bigger, the better.

It's insured but I just hate thieves. I appreciate the input!

Within reason, make your stuff difficult to steal. I knew a guy and companies too, who were so fed up with repeated thefts that they just blasted everything with FUGLY paint. Doesn't effect the operation, but makes it undesireable to steal and identifiable. Not my cup of tea. I freak out if someone gets a spot of paint on my ladder.

I rely on a few things. I'm VERY remote. Only one way in/out of the property. This is my home - so I'm here all the time. Winchester 12 gauge pump. And in the end - good insurance.

In the beginning I met ALL who would come with my shotgun. Word spread. I had a very successful visit from the County Sheriff. I can count on one hand those who have come, that I do not know, in the following years. I've been out here thirty eight years now.

Habits die hard. I lived in Alaska - beginning the first years of statehood. Trespassers were ALWAYS held in suspicion.

I prefer my Remington 870 with a 20 inch barrel and extended magazine,
also a few years back I picked up one of the Saiga 12's.
