Hello,

Just hooked up my Grader/Scraper (G/S) and got a great surprise.

It has to be one of the easiest tool to work with, but to work it properly I need some help.

I attached the G/S to my little lady, level it, somewhat, to the road, and we took off grading the road... and did a great job at it, except for leaving small mounds of dirt behind all along the road.(???)
I'm thinking the dirt might be a little damp from the rains one the last two weeks but I am not sure.
It appears to me that when I am grading along the dryer parts of the road there isn't as many of the small mounds but still some.
At this time I am back dragging to clean up, maybe this is normal but I THOUGHT... I might be doing something wrong.

I will be taking a minute or two to review a few videos but hoping it is just damp material.

Thanks for reading, have a great day and God Bless !

I have the same problem with grass clumps. Sounds like you need more gravel or a drier road if the clumps are dirt holding together. Remember the material flows over the blades, there is nothing to pulverize clumps.

As of today, I have a level road with a slight slant to one side.

Yes I need material but I wanted to lower one area of the road.

My lower section the wettest area is in a major need to material but I don't really know what to use and how to spread it in a way that willet a nice road way that doesn't erode.

The clumps are just overflow from the Drag, not really like clumps of grass and I think they are also from wetter road conditions, but I am not the one to say.

So where I stand is, I can level the road with the slight slant to one side and use the FEL to back drag the overflow material, I need a drain down the side of the road that has the slant toward it and fill the drain with material to keep the water flowing.

Thanks for the reply. I will get a picture the next time I use the Land Plane.

A land plane is a different implement than a grader blade. Which are you using?

I've seen the term, Land Plane Grader Scraper "LPGS" used most often to describe the implement in your land plane link. There are multitudes of names for the implement in the grader blade link...rear blade, scraper blade, back blade, grader blade, rear grader blade, et al.

Based on the OP's thread title, and using circumstantial clues from the context of the OP's post, I would conclude the LPGS is the implement he's using. A picture would be most helpful for all.

I am using a Land Plane !

Other than a quick once over to fill in some of the trenching from rain over the past weeks I decide not to drag the whole driveway.

I need material first, thinking on as was suggested in another Thread, to use 1.5"- as the base material.

So I have the name correct, now I just need to learn the best way to use it.

Thanks to al on the Proper Name thing, funny how we all use different names for the same thing... don't we all speak English ! LoL !

a land plane is a grader scraper as op said. He did not say grader blade

I have always called the Tool a Grader/Scraper, then I learned it is also called a Land Plane (LP), so I modified the naming to LPGS... now it is just Land Plane.

Neither here nor there!

No matter what you call it, it is a great tool, worked right out of the gate, and I'm learning to use it properly as I go.

Now I need to find out if using the LP on stone is different than using the LP on dirt.

Always something.

In my area I can get "road base" which is 1"+ with fines in it. It's what you want to use on roads.
I had a muddy section of road and was able to get a few inches of the road base gravel down. It wasn't pretty at first, but it wasn't slippery anymore. I drove on it and packed it in for a couple of months and once it dried a bit I was able to grade it out and make a nice bit or road. Now it's no problem with a bit of maintenance here and ther.
