Kubota L3130 HST
Ok all you Grand L owners, what (three ??) main things do you like about your tractor?

Here's my short list:

1. Plenty of pulling and lugging power, specifically the diesel plus the 4 WD,
2. The hydrostatic transmission is great. No surprises at all. Exactly what I wanted.
3. The R-4, industrial tires are cool. They have plenty of traction.

1. Size and weight make it a stable tractor.
2. The independent PTO.
3. Pulling power.

Main clutch on the PTO for heavy loads
Well built loaders
Lack of electronics / electrical for main tractor functions

Comparing it to my former tractor...

I like that I can move more snow out of my way in a less amount of time
It's extremely comfortable
I can get the bucket up over a 6' high fence with a sizeable load

If I was to add a fourth it would be the speedometer. The co-op out here gives a certain fertilizer and weed control spread rate travelling at a certain mph. It's nice to actually know and adjust that speed by looking until it becomes second nature.

My silly list

1. It's not Ramon 49's L3130 underpowered disaster of a tractor.
2. I like lots of smelly smoke.

3. I prefer cheese with my whine.

My L30, L3830HST to be exact.

1. The engine is easily the best diesel ever built, you could direct inject it, you could turbo charge it, you could put Amsoil in it, none of those things would improve it!

2. The Kubota HST is in my opinion still the best, simple, the quietest, and quite frankly the best operating one on the market.

3. When you look at the ease with which the loader goes on and off, the strength of it, it's hard to beat, high knee and all. The cruise control could not be improved on with 7 Pentiums working together, the smoothness and quiet characteristics make it a real blessing. After using a Kubota L4850, a NH 2120, a Kubota L48 and a International 454D for many, many hours, the L30 series simply is the best. My L3830, it works for me.

1) cab - no dust /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
2) cab - plenty of cool air in the hot summer months /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
3) cab - plenty of heat in the cold winter months /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Did I mention that I liked my cab /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Only three...????

#1 Engineered for long term durability. The important parts are overbuilt.
#2 The 3PT & FEL capacity is more than I think that I'll ever need, but it's there if I do.
#3 The HST is responsive and the weight/stability of the tractor is a great confidence factor.

Bill, I get all those things without a cab. Must be a geographical thing. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

1. Price. In Maryland, Green was blood all over the floor. Kubota was over $4.5 K less than JD against a 4310 with inferior FEL and BH and that's a slightly lighter frame tractor. Priced the 20 series JD at more than 8K higher to enter that line but in fairness it's slightly more tractor. But for over 8K (1/3 more) w/ attachments, it's not nearly that much more tractor than my 3130.
2. Starts like a dream no matter the temps with no block heater, no smoke on 20 degree starts and just a barely discernable puff or three at 10 above), and nearly none of the cold diesel chatter I'm acoustomed to with my other diesel engines.
3. The attachments (BH & FEL) are incredibly well designed and functioning for any tractor in this class.
4. NO WARRANTY ISSUES! Opps it was three wasn't it? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I complained a little at the beginning on power and still might recommend the 34 or 38 HP versions today for new buyers of the smaller L series, but the 3130 with a little finess is an absolutely amazingly capable performer and totally fullfilling of my requirements. Solid as a brick. I know that now.

All of my early power complaints were fully resolved by a little thinking and tinkering with fuel quality coupled with a break-in. So simple it was stupid, really.

Go ahead....Buy one! Maybe two... Nah, Make the second either a B or M series /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif..... for dexterity /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
