Afew months back someone posted their solution for the WS grapple coming loose from the bottom pins in a SS quikattach. If they would repost this info or if anyone else has had this problem, please provide your cure. When moving in reverse with the grapple loaded or on the ground, pressure is put on the bottom of the quik attach and then pins slip out. There is almost an inch of space at the bottom when the grapple weight is on the top lip support. I suspect heating and bending the bottom catch towards the grapple might work, but that would not allow the bucket to attach, seems like somone posted about putting pins in something and welding some washers in the gap that remedied this problem. thanks chuck

I'd ask Long to figure it out. Seems like that's a manufacturing defect. Somebody doesn't know how to use a measuring tape.

I'm with Jim as it sounds like a manufacturing defect to me. Put the monkey on their back.

Not all SS quick tach attachments are created equal, some have more play in their design. I guess that's so they will fit everything ever made.
I have a pirannah grapple rake for my Kubota with ss quick tach, and also a set of pallet forks.
Mine used to pop off. There was a space at the bottom of the attachment between the quick tach plate and the bottom of the attachments.
I cut a 1/2" thick L-shaped spacer and welded it to the bottom of the attachments where the "heel" of the quick tach mates with the attachment.
No problems since then, and I use my equipment hard enough to bend several tines of the root rake.

Thanks for the reply. It feels good to know someone knows the situation with the extra space between attachment and the QA. I think somone had posted in the past about welding some large washers to the attachment to remedy the problem however i like your idea of the a plate welded over, but for the life of me i didnt see how that would help the situation as the pins still only go as far thru as before. Now my theory is that when pressure, as in reverse on the ground with the grapple, on the pins allows the grapple to slip upwards carrying the pins with them as it eases up to fill the lip part of the QA on the attachment ergo allowing them to come 'unpinned'. Not having that extra space would cause the grapple to fit tightly in the lip, so ther would be no movement upward into the lip as it would already be seated reasonably well. Reading that over, it doesnt sound like a very good explanation. However, please let me know if yoiu understand what i am trying to explain. Also in the past i think somone posted that he drilled holes in the pin and placed bolts thru to kepp the pins from pulling upwards with the pressure on the grapple,,,what say you?? Seems a hole might weaken the strength of the locking pin?? thanks, chuck

Thanks for your response and i agree with the lack of measuring accuracy. The grapple is a Worksave brand in all fairness to WR Long. Mr Long contacted me privately thinking this grapple was of his production, not true!! I should have made that correction when first you assumed it6 was a Long grapple. Apparently this is normal for the worksaver brand as the loaner i had was the same way, but i think i have the solution now. Thanks, chuck

swiftboot:

Do a search for my post " ANBO Grapple on L-39".
I posted a similar issue. The solution was to weld on some 3/8" angle to the bottom where the loader pins attach.
As you have discovered, there is slop in the universal skid steer attachment plate.

Thanks for the response. The slop on mine is 9/16" when the grapple weight is on the lip part. I am going to try 1/2 " plate and see if that will stop the 'breakaway'. Also should stop the clatter and banging when running along without a load. Thanks again, chuck

Chuck,
I see I wasnt' too clear in my description. The L shaped pieces at the heel of the attachment also cover the holes the pins go through.
the long part of the "L" is on the back side of the attachment plate so the pins engage it instead of the attachment holes.
Let me know if that doesn't clear it up for you and I'll post photos.

Maybe if you attached different pictures of your fix I may be able to see it better. You know how aggravating this can be and i appreciate your patience with helping. I wasnt aware that you made the hole smaller in the attachment with the welding, but i can see that would help the situation as well. I am not sure how to post pics here but will try to learn and then you may have a different suggestion. thanks chuck
