am buying a piece of land thats been cut over, there's lots of branches, cut trees. would appreciate any info on cleaning such debris with a grapple. i've seen that there are a few different kinds. one looks like a bucket with a clamp, probably not good for my purposes. one looks like a fork lift with a clamp, which is kind of cool because it looks like it would hold alot, get under stuff fairly easily and you'd have a forklift as well. then there's the one that is a 'rake' (i think) and that looks like it would could work well going after roots as well as branches? any help, experience or sage advice would be appreciated.
thanks,
paul

I use a Worksaver skid steer grapple on both my 2120 and TN and it works great for the type of work you describe. Cost was about $2300 Worksaver Grapple

Check out: www.anbomanufacturing.com

Request their full brochure and video on their Grapple Rakes. Give Terry Anderson (the president) a call and ask him any questions.

They make a first class product that are idealy suited to your application.

The lower tines on the AnBo rake are about 5 to 6 inches apart and will "rake" the ground well.

If you need to get under a single root or two with a single long narrow fork, then this style will not be the best unless you can catch the roots with a corner of the rake (it is certainly strong enough).

For what it's worth Paul I have a similar situation. After looking at the cost of grapple buckets I decided to go rough on it. I just took this pile of brush and rolled it like a dead mouse, squished it with the loader bottom, rolled it some more then rolled it over two chains I have and tied the whole mess together. Carried it several hundred yards and only lost a little. I'd guess there were four hundred pounds at least since the bucket is filled with some large, wet hardwood about 14" in diameter.

I got a 4310 week B4 last and yesterday my dealer brought out my "Bodozer Grapple." I think it's the same as the AnboManufacturing grapple rake, just Deere Green. It's the 60" one. They have smaller and larger. If you can, get one. I spent one really satisfying day today on the 4310 messing with that grapple rake. It is NICE! I got it down. If it weren't for the "woulda shoulda" syndrome I'd have pics, but I was having too much fun. I yarded out a couple of 20" butt by 40' or so fir then picked them up and "placed" them where I wanted them. It moves the root wads around just as well. This didn't phase the hydralics - it's capable of bigger stuff but that wouldn't seem practicle for a day job as with this small a tractor you are well aware you've got something serious gripped by the grapple. It will rake and pick up one hunk of brush. I put a burn pile together today the size of a 2 car garage - well, 2 real little cars. It'll pull up relatively small root clusters pretty good but there needs to be enough to get a bite on. I was burying the rake into the ground under them then curling it to lift. These things are really slick.

Hey guys, first post, another city guy with a life long dream of moving to the country. My wife and I bought 17 acres of hills and rocks covered with Oak in Montague county TX that has a lot of dead fall. I've decided a grapple rake is the tool I need, just haven't pinned down the machine to put it on. I've considered an ASV RC 30 and a 4WD tractor. I'm dealing with rugged terrain and dense woods, so maneuverability is a consideration. I've done some searching here and appreciate the info in this thread and on this site. Thanks, looking forward to getting to know you and hearing your ideas. Mike

I have a rock bucket with grapple that I use on my Cat257 I purchased it from Attachment Express While the Rock bucket is build solid The plumbing on the grapple is poor I have gone thru 2 sets of hoses due to binding. It looks like I will have to redirect the hyd. lines. to keep them out of harms way.
