Maybe his neighbor already has that contract, the roses are already weaponized, and he is the test specimen.

Word on the street is that some hippie farmer in the 60's planted them intentionally as a "natural fence, man"

Much earlier than that, farmers used it for fences to confine cows etc. It was brought in in the late 1800's for use as flower stock if I remember correctly. The hippie farmer is innocent of this charge
