Roundup, or glyphosphate (sp?) works slowly because the the way in which it works. It's my understanding the leaves take it up and deliver to the roots and it intereferes with or blocks the plant's ability to take in nutrients, so it then dies. Slow (usually 7-10 days) but effective as it kills from the roots up.

I have bought round up and all my weeds seem to just party on the stuff..anyway I got this stuff called ground clear that comes in a black jug from Lowe's and it works real good..but dont get is close to small trees it will kill them....I know.

The fellow working in my jungle(yard) uses QuickPro (a Roundup product). It comes in granular form and contains 73.30% Glyphosate and 2.90% Diquat. It knocks down in 24 hours because of the Diquat. It does not migrate through the soil just like Roundup doesn't.

For tough to kill weeds I mix a generic round up along with 2,4,d this seems to knock things out pretty fast. I use this on my ditch banks where the easily available water makes the weeds just come right back.

I have tried the Round Up Extend on some of my bark-covered berms. Seems to work very well. You can use it around trees, unlike ground clear, and nothing came back up that summer. Dang expensive though, you mix 6 ounces per gallon and you have to wet the ground not just spray the weeds.

I can second the pramitol 25E and it flat out works as good as anything I have used...
I tried roundup in all the flavors and it was like fertilizer ...
The pramitol is excellent if you dont want something to grow there for a long time... I would never use it though for a pretreatment for a food plot or somthing that you want to grown in again fairly soon...
If you mix it with deisel it works even better and tends to hold better...
When I had my basketball court put in the asphalt guys used it and swore by it... to date two years later and I have not had any issues with grass or any vegitation trying to come up through it... they used the deisel mix...

The key with Pramitol or other 'ground clear' type herbicides is to read this paragraph:

"Precautions (All uses): (1) Feeder roots of desirable plants often extend far beyond the drip line of the branches. Do not apply
this product, or drain or flush application equipment in locations where the chemical may come into contact with root zones of
desirable trees, shrubs, or plants, or injury may occur. (2) Do not use on land to be cropped (3) Do not use for weed control in
greenhouses."


If you use it near your trees or shrubs you won't have any trees or shrubs
