Grass seed prices

I am goin to be seeding my yard next year and i am wondering where i can get some cheap grass seed. I have looked online at bermuda,carpet grass and centepede. I am goin to be seeding about 3.5 acres but the price of seeds is alot more expensive that i thought i am gonna seed with rye for the winter.
I have got to get some grass going next year to stop the erosion around my pond any ideas on cheap places to get seed.

If you find cheap seed I sure would like to know about it also. Seed prices really jumped this year in my area. I would have to guess that fuel prices for growing and transporting have a lot to do with it.

You should be able to use your biz to set up a wholesale account at a supplier. buy your rye at an elevator and pay attention to tags on the bags and contact the supplier shown on the tags, sometimes a big elevator will buy in bulk and mix themselves with their own branded bags and tags so that wont help.

If I have small quantity orders like 4 bags they UPS it to me which anymore gobbles up the wholsesale/retail difference, They pay the shipping on orders over $1500 which dont happen at my volume.

I have searched high and low and the cheapest i found was 50lbs of hulled bermuda seed for 125.00.

Rye grass does not stop erosion. It maked dirt look nice and dromant grass green again.

If you want to stop erossion, you need to put down mats, straw or some sort of barriers to stop the water runoff from building up speed and volume.

A few things to consider with buying bermuda seed. It's very, very small. Un-Hulled seed is for areas you know it will be on the ground for exteneded periods of time before the right conditions arrive for it to grow. Hulled seed has had it's hull removed and is ready to go. If you put it down, you better have water to get it going right away. If not, it will rot on you.

There are different types of bermuda with prices all over the place. Some of the newer miracle pastured species are very pricey. Next you need to know what percentage of the sack is actual seed and not filler. The best I've found 99% Un-Hulled Bermuda seed for it $4 a pound. That's from my local farm supply store. He's allot cheaper than Home Depot, Lowes and even the seed wholesaler.

I tried ebay without finding anything reasonable. I also haven't found a website that can beat $4 a pound for what I'm getting.

Are you talking about grass seeds for lawn or pasture?
I just seeded an area for over two acres with Orchard and Horse Pasture Mix (a mixture of Orchard, tall Fescue, and Italian Blue Grass). For Orchard grass seed I paid 1.40 per lb and 1.06 for Horse Pasture Mix.
