Grasshoppers

How big, and bad are the grasshoppers in, north central Texas this year?

Just the other day I saw, two grasshoppers hauling a full grown watermelon across the hi-way....a third was carrying a salt shaker, the forth carrying a fork.

This is not a tale! Way back in 10th grade, Biology or some class like that, we went out in the field beside the high school and painted a mark on the grasshoppers to see how many of them would still be there "X" number of weeks later...to see if they basically stayed in one place or not.

One kid bet another that he wouldn't eat a grasshopper, $5 was the wager...still remember seeing the legs sticking out as that kid crunched away! The old saying, a picture is worth a thousand words is very true, I still have that picture in my head after 23 years! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I hear that a little Mesquite makes them go down better. We have nothing but the smaller type here, if any.
They were thick in the eastern part of the state a few years back. 2 of them in the radiator were enough to overheat any auto. Stories were 1 would feed a family of 4. Of course, this was only possible with a 22 cal. rifle and picking their little heads off. Most people complained when using a shot gun and lost too much meat. Males only. Have you ever tried too sex a grasshopper? I think they left the state because our watermellons are not that big. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
