Gravely 20G Fuel Pump

I've got a fuel problem with my 20G. Last week it quit while mowing, found fuel filter empty. The original 3/8 glass filter looked somewhat dirty so I replaced it with a 5/16 plastic filter. Today it quit again while mowing. The filter was empty tank was 1/2 full. I filled the tank and it would start then stall. I disconnected the filter outlet line and used my vacumn tester pump to fill the filter. Reconnected the fuel line and it started. Drove it to the garage. The filter was empty again. With the motor off the filter slowely refilled. So what have I got a bad fuel pump?
Is there any fix to the fuel pump?

Are you certain that the pickup screen which is part of the tank shutoff valve is not clogged?

No I've been wondering if there is a strainer in the tank. Guess I'll pull the tank and check it while I'm waiting for the pump to arrive.

I found the same thing happened on my 12G with Kohler motor after replacing the gas filter with a non-Kohler branded filter. Going back to a Kohler branded filter eliminated the problem. I have read that these motors can be finicky regarding filter types. Don't know why, but it worked.

The motor also was also Hydro locked again, 2nd time.
I talked with Richards this morning expecting to be buying a kit to rebuild the carb. Teck at Richard's said it's most likely the fuel pump. Suspected a bad pump diaphragm is allowing gas to fill the crankcase.

So lets hope replacing the fuel pump cures both the fuel and hydro lock problems.
