Well, if the - side never goes to ground it will never generate spark. It certainly isn't the source of your short.

You can run your tractor without the stator being connected even if the diode was good. It just won't charge the battery.

Hello everyone, I'm back. It's been a while, I haven't had time to work on my Gravely 5265 Commercial in a while, but I recently found out that the problem is in fact the Stator. I went to the Gravely dealer to get one and they told me that I would need the engine model number. all I know at this point is that it's an 8 hp Kohler engine. I didn't think it would be that complicated. I'm hoping someone here knows which one it takes. If anyone knows anything, I would appreciate it.
