I now have 5 hours on my CC 2042. I have been lurking here for months, and the forum was helpful in making my purchase decision.

I did my first oil change (messy) and now want to grease the tractor.

I found two fittings on the front axles, one below the steering shaft and three on the mower (two spindles, and the idler pully.

Have I missed any?

Thanks for the help.

There's two zerks on the steering gear housing. One for the pinion shaft and one for the sector shaft (just found that one myself /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif). Total of 5 for front axle: at the center pivot on the front axle. One on each front spindle and one on each steering knuckle. Hopefully someone will chime in on others!?! That engine oil drain sucks doesnt it? I pump out thru the dipstick tube now.

The owners manual shows all the fittings and locations.
In addition to putting grease in the fittings, I use good old WD-40 on every moving part, springs, etc. . Don't forget to take a rag and clean off the oil and trany filters = keeps them a bit cooler if they are clean.
I wouldn't wait for 5 hours to grease the fittings. The tractor will last much longer if you give the fittings a once over every 2 or 3 times you use it.
Note: I am still working on ideas to get rid of the funky oil change gizmo ( it's a mess and I don't trust it).

JTCUB: What do you use for pumping the oil out through the dip-stick?

When customers ask, we re-engineerig the oil drain system on the CC's we sell. To do this is ultra easy.

When changing the engine oil, disconnect the battery. Loosen the 4 bolts holding the engine to its mounting plate. Remove the drain fitting on the block and install an El fitting. Using various lenght of pipe and another el along with cap and or drain valve, the "outlet" can be relocated to a more easy to reach area. The clear plastic hose can still be used.

The 3000 series and all of the V-Twin engine powered Cub Cadets greatly benefit from this quick modification. No more spilled oil mess on the frame!

(your exact parts requirements and routing of drain line will vary per the model installed on ).

True, but the zerks locations are not pointed out at all for the "steering arm housing" in my (2005) 2500 series manual in either the lube table or parts diagrams. Per manual, lube guide: "Steering arm housing - Every 30hrs or 3x a season, use 251H EP greaase or an equiv No. 2 multi purpose lithium grease. Apply 2 strokes with lubricator. For pumping out the oil, I use a cheap harbor freight tools hand pump. It works ok. An electric or air op pump would be way better. That oil drain mod sounds great! I thought about that, but didn't know you could lift the engine with the driveshaft in place.
