I have been having an interesting time with my gun lately. if i loosen the chuck on the gun enough so that it is not a bear to remove from the nipple the grease oozes out between the sections. if i tighten it enough to stop the oozing it takes pliars or better to get it back off again. any one have suggestions?

Try a different grease nipple is about all ya can try.

I'd try a different chuck. I closely inspected several and saw major differences in how they were made. The quality of the little jaws varies a lot as does the rubber seal quality.
I finally found one that was decent after trying several different ones.

I bought a new chuck at TSC a couple of weeks ago (OEM brand, nearly $5) that was so poorly made I ended up snapping off the first grease fitting I put it on. trying to get it back off. I returned it to them and got a fitting at Atwoods Farm and Ranch for $1.69 that works perfectly. Easy on easy off and doesn't leak.:) So higher price doesn't necessarily mean better.
