Oil & Fuel Grease in front bevel gears?

I picked up some corn head grease at the nearest John Deere dealer. The service manager suggested adding the grease in gradual increments, lest pressure increase within the bearing and damage the seal. I removed the the fittings to check for excess pressure after each 15 pumps. There was none until I ran out of grease on the first tube.

It's hard to tell if the front end of my Bolens G174 likes the grease, but it certainly sounds no worse.

Something howls in cold weather, but the tractor has run well for about eighty hours of mowing this spring, most in 4WD.

I had to resurrect this thread because I have been experiencing what I believe to be the same howling in cold weather as you have now that I had to use the tractor for plowing snow. I apparently lost the pictures on my local computer so I had to go back to this post to find them (go "cloud-based" storage!) I don't suspect the bearings I replaced are the source of the noise because there are less than 100 hours on them but I cannot pinpoint the exact location/bearing of the howling while using it. It definitely is worse (really only apparent) when 4wd is engaged and the weather is cold. I'm suspecting it may be one of the bearings associated with the differential drive pinion. All of the bearings will probably need to be checked to ensure reliability moving forward especially since there were problems with the final drives. I'll post my results when I get around to tearing it apart.
