I got the JD Lithium Grease (the regular stuff) for my 990. I would like to be able to use one grease for everything (tractor related or not). Is this the grease to use or should I have got something else? The mechanic I talked to at the dealer thinks its good stuff. I think the manual recommends low-clay something or other. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks.

Zuiko; In my opinion any lithium based grease with EP2 additives will work in almost all applications, except constant submergence in water( I don't think you are planning on that...are you /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif). That's my 2 cents worth!!

Agreed. Also, I think it is important to point out that not all the grease fittings have the same requirements. At one end of the scale is u-joints. These have seals and contain rolling element bearings. Once a year is on the prudent side. At the other extreme is the lower loader pins- these are typically not sealed, and live in a harsh environment, and should be lubed daily or at about 10 hours of loader use.

Graphite or a moly grease is better in extreme conditions and only costs about $1 more a tube if that TSC has it for 1.29 a tube. But any lithium #2 grease will work.

The tech at my selling dealer told me the polyurea high-temp works for everything and that mower spindles should receive at least a high-temp moly. No. 2 is the minimum standard, as everyone else indicates.

I get the Black Stuff from the JD dealer. I use it in everything and it seems to work great on my trailer bearings. They tell me at the shop its the best stuff JD has. Dave

Do you know what the black stuff is? The stuff I got is pink and translucent.

Hi

I went to the JD dealer and tried to get the different greases that the manual calls out. The JD parts guy didn't seem to be familiar with all of them. He did have several on the shelf and I ended up purchasing the polyurea since it was rated for the extreme pressure on the loader. I have used it for the steering linkage and pedal linkage as well.

The dealer greased everything fresh for me on delivery, but it didn't appear to match the greenish blue hue of the polyurea.

For what it's worth when I was in the Air Force we used Moly grease on everything!
