I purchased my SCUT TLB last year and grease all fittings as per the manual at 5Hr. useage intervals. Usually I give it enough grease so I could see it forcing grease out the joint. The grease builds up and gets all over. Am I giving it to much grease? What is the easiest way to clean the grease pushed out of the joints? A rag just seem to smear it around.

Any solvent and a clean rag will work. Diesel.. Brake clean.. Varsol.. anything like that.

After the heavy grease is gone. Just use some degreaser soap, like Simple Green or Purple Power and pressurewash.

Nothing wrong with what you are doing! Grease is cheap insurance!

5 hours seems excessive. I grease my tractor every 50 hours when I do oil changes.

It's the FEL and backhoe that have the most grease fittings. I just don't want to chew up pins and bushings!

Does seem a little much, a five hour interval.... Thinking my FEL calls for every 8 hours.

I tend to grease more often than 8 hours though... I see it as cheap insurance too.

Price out loader pins or steering knuckles, u-joints extra grease is cheap.

I agree with the others, and still say grease is good, but you can space it out to 8 or 10 hrs, AKA daily.

One thing about grease is that it pushes out any water that has entered the pin area. If the tractor hasnt been used for a period of time, but has less than ~10 hrs since the last grease, Id still grease to force out any water. Depending on grease used it may or may not be very water resistant. There are many varriables, is the tractor stored outside (mine is)? Weather? Usage (heavy or light)? Type of grease used? On and on. Its hard to come up with a hard and fast "rule" so I live by the more grease is better idea.

Me too. Grease is cheap. I grease my FEL every time I use it.I don't care if it is one hour or ten hours.

I grease every 10 hours, but nothing wrong with what you are doing..

Wipe off the big mess with a rag which will smear some around, then take a rag with some WD40 sprayed on it, and clean up the mess, and if you want you can run a dry rag to finish off, and it will be beautiful.
